Marcus fights back and escapes, but not before they have partially transformed him into a murderous assassin. Desperate to regain his sanity, he is on the run from the most dangerous corporation on the planet, soon discovering the facility is surrounded by deadly super sharks - sharks develop by the same software now driving his own mind. Marcus encounters a beautiful biology scientist who is making a TV documentary. She is determined to help him return to normal… if she can avoid becoming his next target.

RODALA (American) – is the head of a covert experimental lab, based in China and owned by a ruthless American Military conglomerate. Her Security Head, SLAYDE (US) IS ordered to kidnap ex-soldier MARCUS (UK) in London and smuggle him to China. Marcus’ new wife, MARIANNE, is killed in the mayhem.
Marcus is brought to the secret research facility on the coast of the East China Sea. There, in a secluded Bay, Rodala and her head scientist and nanotechnology genius, BING LI, (Chinese) gradually turn Marcus into a nanotech-controlled super soldier – the first of his kind in the world. He is known as Type One, as there are more models to come. The soldiers feel no pain, can repair themselves in minutes, and can be remotely controlled. (Bing Li has no idea about Rodala’s true intentions with his incredible science).
However, during his debut demonstration to the company’s dark investors (and after killing a couple of Chinese henchmen per Rodala’s instructions) something causes Marcus to malfunction. He overrides the software controlling him and escapes.
It appears Bing Li may have something to do with the malfunction (as he has sensed Rodala is using his work for evil). Rodala sends Slayde, along with his henchmen, to capture Marcus fast.
ANNIE (a beautiful Chinese documentary filmmaker, biologist and shark specialist) and her Chinese film crew are investigating the strange behavior of the declining shark numbers in the region. Annie has studied in America and has now been commissioned to make a ‘China Special ‘by a large US network. She is very streetwise and her father was a Kung Fu master who taught her how to defend herself.
They make their way to the secluded bay by boat, despite an official prohibition on visitors of any kind – landing on the beach is strictly prohibited. But Annie believes the area is abandoned and possibly an old American military site used for nuclear trials in the past. She has no idea what horrors they are actually walking into.
Their boat is moored off shore. That night, as Annie and her crew go ashore in a dingy, the two deck hands who are still on board the boat are killed by something huge in the water. Annie begins to investigate, completely unaware of the chaos on the other side of the island.
Slayde’s men try to capture Marcus, who is a danger to himself and to anyone he encounters. Rodala is determined that her top-dollar experiment cannot be discovered or lost. Billions of dollars of research are at stake and investors are beginning to get impatient and demand results. Furthermore, the nanotechnology is too underdeveloped to be trusted. Rodala and Bing Li fight over what to do about the missing Marcus… kill him? Or bring him back alive? Bing Li is devastated that his soldiers are being harmed and might be sold off.
Slayde and his men are no match for Marcus, whose programming flicks in and out of killer mode. Marcus destroys several of Slayde’s thugs and knocks out Slayde before stumbling upon Annie and her team. His programming is driving him to destroy. Will he kill them? Annie suddenly understands what kind of danger she has put her crew in.
Luckily, Marcus is still confused by his natural memory and instincts, and something in Annie sparks a memory of his past. It’s the memory of Marianne, his dead wife. Annie manages to calm Marcus down before Slayde arrives and immediately kills two of her film crew. He is under orders to destroy them all, as they are a huge risk to the program.
Marcus becomes more aware of what has been done to him. He wants to help Annie escape but he is very unpredictable and dangerous. His memory seems to be able to overrun his programming, but when attacked or provoked, he is uncontrollable. But he knows right from wrong, and he must now do everything in his power not to destroy Annie and her remaining friends, while protecting them all from being extinguished by those hunting him down.
Needing to get the situation under control pronto, Rodala decides to unleash some early experimental ‘Type 2’ nano-commandos to capture or destroy Marcus. Bing Li argues with her, and says that it is too dangerous. They are more powerful but less advanced in their development and hard to control. They are not ready to be out in the field.
Furious and desperate, Rodala overrules Bing Li and the Type 2’s are sent to follow the tracking device that was implanted under Marcus’ skin. But Annie has discovered the tracking device and is carefully removing it from Marcus’ chest with a fishing knife (an exercise which nearly sees her killed).
There is a deadly chase and then Marcus ambushes the Type 2’s and kills one of them. Rodala sees the true power of the monster she has created. Bing Li secretly rushes to have Slayde’s body brought back to the facility.
At the same time, Slayde pursues Annie and that forces her to split up from the remaining members of her TV crew. Two crew members try to reach the boat alone but are attacked in the water and killed by a ‘nano-shark’, a huge creature we later learn has been used to develop the software controlling Marcus.
Annie finds a cache of weapons but Slayde and the remaining Type 2 are upon her. She fights to the death, finally overpowering Slayde, and Marcus kills the remaining Type 2 in a monumental battle - two super-soldiers, virtually immortal. (During the fight they are forced into the water, but curiously, the sharks seem to ‘recognize’ their nanotechnology and do not attack Marcus).
Now Rodala’s suspicions are confirmed and she learns Bing Li has double-crossed her. He has been trying to sabotage the sale of their software and expose her for the enormous threat she poses to mankind by releasing his work. She orders Slayde to kill him and Bing Li runs, hunted.
But Slayde is finally killed in a battle with Marcus, so Rodala must go to the front line herself. A deadly machine when in combat, Rodala easily slaughters the final member of Annie’s crew and takes Annie hostage (in order to lure Marcus to save her).
Bing Li is also captured. He bargains, to save his own life, and reveals he has the capability to turn Slayde’s corpse into a ‘Type 3’, an unimaginable machine he has been developing privately. Rodala orders him to ‘engage’. With Annie captured and Type 3 about to be unleashed, things do not look good for Marcus.
Annie tricks a guard into allowing her to escape from her holding cell. She breaks into the lab and learns the secrets of what Rodala and her company are doing. Annie radios for help, but Rodala hears her and they fight hard, two strong and now battle-hardened women. Eventually, Rodala gets the upper hand and just as she’s about to kill Annie, Marcus appears.
Their backstory is revealed: Marcus is an old lover of Rodala’s and after he married another woman Rodala became determined to get her revenge. Marcus is in disbelief.
Rodala tries to shoot Annie but Marcus throws himself in front of her, saving her life.
Suddenly, the enormous Type 3 (Slayde resurrected) enters and kills Rodala. An intervention orchestrated by Bing Li, he wants to save his creations and kill Rodala with his latest development. Bing Li flees and Annie chases him, desperate to learn more about the science behind Marcus and possibly save his life in return.
Type 3 and Marcus fight it out. It’s an epic battle, the action climax.
Annie catches up to Bing Li and explains to him how she thinks the nano technology can be destroyed. Bing Li tells her his concerns: they have a life of their own now. There is nothing she can do, there is nothing anyone can do – he has created a species that will very quickly take over the world. He tells her he must get help and flees in an inflatable boat, but the nano-sharks quickly close in on Bing Li. He is killed by his own creations.
Marcus and Type 3 are still fighting when Annie enters. Type 3 kills Annie instantly. Marcus screams. In his ultimate rage he manages to finally kill Type 3 with a special anti-nano-tech harpoon.
He rushes to Annie and is compelled to give her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, where we see he is actually transferring his nano-DNA to her system. Marcus’s own system shuts down and he dies. The technology is alive. We end on Annie: A blood stained tear indicates she has become a nanosoldier: (Weapon of War: 2).
